You don’t need to be rich to own a money plant, but you do need to know how not to kill it. Thankfully, that’s where this guide comes in. We’ve rounded up the simple, no-fuss tips to help your money plant thrive (and maybe, just maybe, bring in a little good fortune too).
1. Where should I place my money plant?
Anywhere it gets bright, indirect light. It can handle lower light too, especially in winter, but don’t stick it in a dark corner and expect miracles. Too much sun, and the leaves will get crispy. Too little, and they’ll start turning yellow and droopy.
2. How often should I water my money plant?
In summer once a week is enough, wait until the top inch of soil is dry. In winter every two to three weeks, since the plant slows down and doesn’t need as much water.
3. When should I repot?
If the roots start circling the bottom of the pot or poking out the drainage holes, it’s time. Choose a slightly **bigger pot with fresh soil**, and repot during spring or early summer to give it a head start in the growing season.
4. Do I need to fertilise?
Use a mild liquid fertiliser about once a month during spring and summer. Always water the plant before you fertilise & skip feeding during the winter, it’s basically hibernating.
5. Any pests or diseases to worry about?
Money plants are pretty resilient, but they can attract the usual suspects: mealybugs, aphids, spider mites & occasionally fungal issues if overwatered. Wipe the leaves regularly and treat pests with neem oil or a mild insecticidal soap if needed.
6. Is it pet-friendly?
Money plants contain calcium oxalates, which can irritate pets if chewed. Keep it out of reach if you’ve got curious paws around.
If you're into low-maintenance, fast-growing, air-purifying, mood-lifting greenery, the money plant is all charm, no drama.
