There’s something charming about Syngoniums. Maybe it’s the arrow-shaped leaves. Or the way they quietly adapt to just about any corner of your home without complaint. Either way, these leafy little shapeshifters are here to make plant parenting easier, especially if you like low-effort plants that still look a bit fancy.

1. Where should I keep it ?

Not fussy, just a little particular. Syngoniums love medium to bright indirect light but they won’t complain too much if you keep them in low light (especially during winter). Just don’t put them in harsh, direct sun, the leaves will crisp up faster than toast under the grill.

2. How often should I water my Syngonium?

Water it regularly in spring and summer (about twice a week) to keep the soil moist but not soggy. In winter, ease off to once a week. Syngoniums are prone to root rot, so never let it sit in standing water.

3. Do they care about the weather?

Yes, they prefer things warm and cosy. Keep your Syngonium in a spot with temperatures between 16°C and 27°C. They don’t love the cold, so avoid drafty windows or sudden temperature drops.

4. When do I repot it?

Every other spring is a good rhythm. These plants grow quickly, and repotting gives them fresh soil and more room to stretch. Even if it doesn’t need a new pot, refreshing the soil once a year can do wonders.

5. What about pests and problems? Should I be worried?

Syngoniums are pretty resilient. But if they’re hanging out with infected neighbours, they can pick up mealybugs, spider mites, aphids, or scale. A neem oil spray or gentle insecticidal soap will usually sort them out.

6. Can I keep this around pets?

Unfortunately, no. Syngoniums are toxic to pets, so keep them out of reach of curious cats, dogs, and anyone with a habit of nibbling on leaves.

Some plants just grow on you. Syngonium does it quite literally, slowly unfurling new leaves, softening sharp corners, and reminding you that even quiet things need care
