Officially known as *Sansevieria*, the Snake Plant is one of those plants that wears many hats & names. You might hear it called *Mother-in-law’s tongue*, *Viper’s bowstring hemp*, or even *Tiger’s tail orchid*. It’s originally from Africa, but like any good overachiever, it’s now spread its roots (literally) into homes around the world.
1. How often should I water my Snake Plant?
Once every two weeks is a good rule of thumb, and even less in winter. The soil should be bone dry before you even think about watering again. If in doubt, wait it out, overwatering is the fast track to root rot. Your snake plant’s not thirsty; she’s mysterious.
2. Where should I place my Snake Plant?
Anywhere, really. Snake plants are chill like that. They do well in low light, bright indirect light, and everything in between. Just maybe not a locked cupboard or the inside of a closet. If you want it to grow a little faster or show off more color, a brighter spot helps.
3. What kind of temperature does a Snake Plant like?
Warm and steady wins the race. Snake plants prefer temperatures above 10°C, and they don’t appreciate cold drafts or damp spaces. A cozy corner in your living room or bedroom? Perfect.
4. Is the Snake Plant pet friendly?
Unfortunately, no. While it’s not dangerously toxic, Snake Plants can cause mild irritation if nibbled by pets or small children. Best to keep them on a high shelf, stylish and safe.
5. When should I repot my Snake Plant?
Only when it tells you to. Snake plants actually like being a bit snug in their pots. But if you notice roots creeping out the bottom, or the pot bulging like it’s about to burst, time for a move. Typically, every 2–3 years.
Low-maintenance, great company, and always dressed to impress. Just don’t overwater or trap it in a tiny pot forever, and you’re looking at years of silent, spiky companionship.
